Commissioning
a Pet Portrait Oil Painting
How does it work?
You provide me with one or more sharply focused,
naturally lit photographs that accurately depict your pet’s
personality and colors. It is particularly important that the details
of your animal’s eyes are visible in one photo. Depending
on the size of the portrait you want, the portrait can show either
your pet’s
entire body or just a close-up of the face (or face and chest).
Your photo(s) will be the springboard for my painting, so please
read the Tips Section to ensure that you
take the best possible picture.
How do you pay?
You pay half the fee upon commissioning your portrait
and half upon your portrait’s completion.
How much does it cost?
The cost depends on the size of your painting.
For toy or other small dogs, I recommend commissioning a small
portrait, perhaps 8” x 10”. For medium dogs, 16” x
20” can work well, depending on whether or not you want the
dog’s entire body and a background vs. just a close-up of
his face. For large dogs, the size can vary from 18” x 24” to
24” x 36” or larger, depending on your preference and
the complexity of the background you want. It costs $250.00
for each additional pet in the same painting.
Size?
Any dimensions, no matter how unusual, are possible. Typical
sizes, however, are:
6” x 6” |
$275 |
16” x 20” |
$750 |
8” x 8” |
$400 |
18” x 24” |
$900 |
8” x 10” |
$500 |
24” x 36” |
$1,200 |
What if you don’t like
the painting?
I will work with you to try to correct whatever
it is that you dislike. If you are ultimately unhappy with the
work, I keep the initial deposit and the painting. (This has never
happened.)
Framing?
Framing the work is your responsibility, although
it is often unnecessary with my paintings.
Shipping & Handling?
Depending on where you live, you can either pick
up the portrait, or I can carefully wrap and ship it to you at
cost. |
